A collection of quick fixes for common problems related to the boot process

This page is a work in progress and by no means complete. If you find a solution please add it! Feel free to improve the existing ones.

  • No menu shows up. Or it still only boots Ångström.
    • Did you flash the right set of zImage and initramfs.cpio.gz through the recovery/SDE-menu?
    • Did you create an menu.lst with more than one line and put it into the main directory of your Archos unit?
    • Did your editor use UNIX line-breaks when editing the menu.lst? (windows notepad doesn't!)
  • The last system in menu.lst does not show in my menu
    • Did you add a line-break after the last line?
  • Some lower menu entry does not work and another item boots instead
    • Did you use the same name twice? This is not supported, please add something to the second entry e.g. "Angstrom_2" (the underscore is important)
  • If I select AVOS or Android nothing happens or the unit reboots
    • Are the archos *.cramfs.secure files ok?


Generation 6 only:

  • If I select AVOS or Android nothing happens or the unit reboots
    • Did you recreate the second partition on your Archos unit?
