xkbd on-screen keyboard is unsatisfactory

As a virtual keyboard, xbkd is unsatisfactory in a number of ways. It's hard for users to configure; it tries to put too many keys on the screen at the same time so the tap area if tiny; it's unsightly. We urgently need a better alternative.

I implemented a detached, transparent version of xkbd on an experimental basis, and it's not too bad. Still a lot of work to do, however. One nasty is that the compositing manager xcompmgr, which is needed for transparency effects, interferes with the desktop panel. I'm not hugely worried about this because, in the longer term, compositing should really be done in the WM.
